Restful RV publishes research-based gear guides for travel trailer owners and CPAP users. This page explains what information the site collects, why, and what you can do about it. We have deliberately kept it in plain language rather than legal boilerplate.
The short version
We do not sell your personal information. We do not run advertising networks. We do not require an account to read anything on this site. This site earns revenue through the Amazon Associates affiliate program on some product links, disclosed at the top of any article that has them. The section below explains how that works.
Information you give us directly
- Comments. Comments are currently turned off across this site, so there is no comment form and we collect nothing through one. If they are reopened in future, WordPress would store the name, email address, website and comment text you enter, along with your IP address, and this page would be updated to say so.
- Emails. If you contact us, we keep your message and email address so we can reply and follow up if the same question comes up again.
Information collected automatically
- Server logs. Our web host records standard access data. IP address, browser type, the page requested, and the time. These logs are used for security and troubleshooting.
- Cookies. This site sets no cookies of its own. Google Analytics sets cookies, described under Analytics below, and Amazon may set cookies when you follow one of our links to their site.
Affiliate links and Amazon
This site is a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for sites to earn advertising fees by advertising and linking to Amazon.com. Some product links on this site are affiliate links. Clicking one lets Amazon place a cookie in your browser so it can attribute a purchase to us and pay a commission, at no extra cost to you.
What happens after you click is governed by Amazon, not by us. We never see your name, your address, your payment details, or what you actually bought. We only see anonymous totals of items ordered. If you want to know how Amazon handles your data, read the Amazon Privacy Notice on their site.
Affiliate commissions do not influence our recommendations. Picks are decided before any link is added, and products that pay us nothing appear in top positions throughout the site.
Analytics
This site uses Google Analytics 4 to see how people find and use the site, which guides get read, roughly what part of the world readers are in, and whether they are on a phone or a computer. Google sets cookies in your browser to do this and processes the data on our behalf. We see summary reports, not the identity of individual readers, and Google Analytics 4 does not store full IP addresses. We do not use this data for advertising and we do not share it with advertisers. If you would rather not be counted, you can install Google’s opt-out browser add-on at tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout, or block cookies in your browser settings. Blocking it changes nothing about how the site works for you.
Who we share information with
Nobody, for money. We do not sell, rent, or trade your information. Your data may be handled by service providers we depend on to run the site: our web host, our email provider, and our backup service. Each only receives what it needs. We may also disclose information if legally required to.
How long we keep things
Comments and their metadata are kept indefinitely so we can recognize and approve follow-up comments automatically. Emails are kept as long as they are useful for support. Server logs are rotated by our host on their own schedule, typically within a few weeks.
Your rights
Wherever you live, you can ask us for a copy of the personal data we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. If you are in the EU or UK, these rights come from the GDPR; if you are in California, from the CCPA. Write to us using the contact page and we will action it. We will not discriminate against you for asking.
Children
This site is aimed at adults buying RV and CPAP equipment. It is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 13. If you believe a child has given us information, contact us and we will delete it.
Changes to this policy
If we change how this site handles data, we will update this page and change the date at the top. Material changes will be noted at the top of the page rather than slipped in quietly.
